Tapas Festival in Rincón de la Victoria

Summer time has come and the party’s going on. Marelingua welcomes the season of happiness and likes to inform about an event that is just about to come up. From June 5th to June 8th is the annually Tapas Festival in Rincón de la Victoria taking place. A big pavilion next to the beach will be the scene of the spectacle. Seventeen restaurants are offering many different Tapas for as low as two Euros, each with a drink included. The organisers want to attract more than 30000 people this year. A cultural program is also planned. Music, Flamenco and entertainment for kids will make your stay there an adventure for the whole family.
Some of our students might be visiting the festival as it is just 15 minutes away from Malaga by bus. Attending a Spanish course in the morning and visiting a Tapas Festival in the evening, what a wonderful combination. The Team of Marelingua wishes all visitors of this festival a nice stay.

“Indy” is back!

„INDY“ IS BACK

It has been a very long time since Indiana Jones went through his last adventure on the big screen in the world’s cinemas. Nineteen long years have fans been waiting now, but it wasn’t waste of time. This May he will be back. Our hero will be heading for the “Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” and this is supposed to be spectacular.
The action takes place during the Cold War in 1957. Indy wants to find a legendary skull of the Maya civilization in the jungle. This skull permits to get in contact with the gods of the Maya empire. Maybe that’s why the Russian agent Irina Spalko also wants to find it. At least, Indy is not alone. He is accompanied by his ex girlfriend Marion Ravenwood and his son Mutt. Let us hope they find it before the Russians do so.
George Lucas and his staff have been working on a fourth part since 1993, but finally they have chosen the script of the author of Jurassic Park, David Koepp. Hopefully, this movie will be at least as successful as the three other parts.
There will be two different novels on the market by the end of May. One was written by James Luceno, that is the official one, and the other one was written by James Rollins. That means that true fans need to read two different books or have to wait for the critics of those who already read them. The movie itself starts here in Spain at the 22nd of May.
The team from Marelingua, the Spanish school in the heart of Malaga, always likes to welcome new students to our courses. Who decides to stay here with us within the next two months can also go to the cinema and see the new Indy movie on the big screen. We do not only invite new students to do that, but also all our friends that are considering to visit us here, soon. You can perfectly try out your comprehension skills while viewing the movie. Let us hope that Indy and his friends will be able to find that magic skull.

Concerts in the Cervantes Theatre in April

It is already April and we just passed the holy week. Now, we would like to inform about this month’s events in the Cervantes Theatre. It became a tradition for us from Marelingua, the language school in the plain centre of Malaga, to do so.

It is not only the famous Spanish movie festival of Malaga that takes place these days, there are much more cultural events this month. That is exactly what this city needs as they applied for the title “European Cultural City of 2016”.

Two really great artists will be visiting us this month. You should not miss them, because both of them are brilliant in their genre. At least take a chance to see one of them before entering the exiting night life of this Spanish city.

We start off on Tuesday the 15th – Paul Anka, a Canadian musician, will be playing in honour of his 50th anniversary. His last record was fantastic. He interpreted well-known superstars just like Bon Jovi, the Killers or Evanescence. That is why he named the disk “Classic songs: my way”. This concert will be fulfilling all expectations of his fans. Born in 1941, he is still just great.

  Paul Anka

On the 29th, also a Tuesday, the genre will completely change. Carlos Núñez will be playing bagpipe. Celtic melodies from his new album “Cinema do mar” will be heard in the concert hall. He also plays movie themes from “The Godfather” or “ The Mission” and there will also be a classic excursion into Revel’s “The Bolero”. Amazing.

We hope that all our friends will share their experiences with us in our Blog after having seen the artists in concert. Have fun.

Semana Santa — The Holy Week

Malaga is preparing for Semana Santa. You can hear people talking about it in every corner of the city. It is spring time here in this beautiful region of Spain and as we are heading for the Easter week it is quite useful to know what the trouble is all about. People do not paint raw eggs to roll them down some hill. There is no need for a competition like that here in Malaga. So let’s see what’s really going on.
The Easter Bunny doesn’t exist. That is exactly what people tell you here. It is not because they don’t believe in fairy tales; it is because they do not have this tradition here. There is no Easter Bunny hiding boiled and painted eggs in the garden like the Germans have. No egg rolling or something similar, there is just a city that will be closed for traffic several times in the holy week. Why? Processions! That’s the right term. The good roman-catholic Christian people of Malaga built huge thrones to honour their patron saints and God, of course. There will be 43 processions throughout the week from Sunday to Holy Sunday. Maundy Thursday and Good Friday are both holidays here. So please remember that shops will be closed for two days. So this is what people do here in Semana Santa. Don’t miss it. It is going to be a lot of fun.

  Procession in Malaga

The team of Marelingua welcomes its students here in Semana Santa. You will have a great time with activities planned by the school and also in your student apartments or in the Spanish families. So let’s pass a great holy week and have some fun.
We would like to wish all our friends, partners and students Happy Eastern. See you soon.

Teatro Cervantes Concerts Guide

cervantes-1.jpg

The Team of Marelingua presents in its Blog an outlook on concerts to be held in the famous Cervantes Theatre of Malaga. Maybe some of our friends or students will be curious about seeing one of the live events.

Teenage Fanclub: An original Scottish band from Glasgow is going to rock the theatre on the first of March. They will be smashing their power pop and alternative pop rock hits from the 1990’s. Their most interesting discs are “Bandwagonesque” (1991) and “Thirteen” (1993). They released their recent disc “Man-Made” in 2005 and will probably play songs of this one, too.

John Cale: Wednesday, 5th March at 9 p.m. this extraordinary musician and founder of “Velvet Underground” will be playing “Circus live”, his artwork. You might know him also as a composer for film music as he did work on “American Psycho” (2000), for example. He also works as a producer and is successful in making punk and new wave music.

Patti Smith: At an age of 61 she doesn’t think about retirement. She is a real queen of music and will be filling the rows on the theatre up to the very last seat. On March 11th she will be playing songs of her new rocking disc “Twelve”. Did you know that she produced her very first album “Horses” together with John Cale who will be freaking out the crowd in the theatre one week before her?

Now it’s up to you if you go and see one of these special events. We can recommend all of them. You surely won’t be disappointed.

Café con libros: 10th Anniversary

Cafe con libros

Ten years ago opened its door one of the best cafes in Malaga. We all know how fast time goes by, but people like to spend their precious time there talking, doing homework, drinking tea or coffee and even reading books. It is a nice place for everyone. Once situated in calle Granada it is now placed right at plaza de la Merced.
It has always been a place to relax for all the stressed students of all the language schools in Malaga, but spanish people also like to have a coffee or tea with friends in this nice ambiance.
Café con libros changed a lot when moving to plaza de la Merced. Its a lot bigger right now, but it has not lost a bit of its charm. Juanma and Alicia always try to do the best they can to satisfy their cumstomers by surprising them with delicious coffee creations. And those who like it sweet can try cakes and sweets. You will love them.
All members of Marelingua language school wish the team of the Café con libros the very best for their future and we hope you will all stay with us for at least 1000 years. Happy birthday!

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Santa Claus is getting prepared for his hardest job. Every year, he flies from house to house, climbs down every chimney - just to put the presents in all the stockings all over the world. As we from MareLingua are getting prepared for Christmas, we want to wish all our friends, colleagues, partners, students and teachers a merry, merry Christmas and y very happy and prosperous new year.

We also hope you don`t forget: On the 8th of January clases will resume. See you all.

Foreign students at the University of Malaga (Erasmus, Leonardo, Socrates)

Every year lots of students come to the University of Malaga to study in one of its faculties. That’s why you can hear people from different countries talking lots of different languages while walking around on campus.
All of them have one thing in common – they need to understand the Spanish language to be able to follow classes and, of course, to solve all the problems coming up during their stay abroad. These could be opening a bank account, subscription at the university, looking for accommodation as well as everyday problems like ordering in bars and restaurants, meeting people or get along with your neighbours.
Although the exchange programs require the students to speak Spanish before they come here a lot of people still would like to improve it to feel more comfortable while using it.
Unfortunately, in most cases it is not possible for University students to attend an intensive course, because their daily schedules are filled with classes they need to attend.
That is where Marelingua can perfectly help out. We offer you a 3 hours per week Spanish course for university students. This course covers all aspect of the language as mentioned above and you will be perfectly fit to cope with everyday situations.
So if you were a University student or just wanted to spend some time in Malaga and needed a Spanish course to improve the use of this language, Marelingua would be the perfect place to do it. Please give us a call at (0034) 952 65 74 40 to receive all information you need. The school is only five minutes away from Plaza de la Merced and the campus of El Ejido.
